Vater Percussion is an American manufacturing company founded in 1950's based in Massachusetts and is one of top 5 American drum stick manufacturers. The company has always focused on percussion instruments, producing drum sticks, brushes and mallets. It was founded by Jack Adams, and today run by his two grandsons Ron and Alan Vater. American Hickory Hickory is the most popular wood choice for drumsticks due to its shock absorption and durability and Vater only uses the 2 best Hickory species: Shellbark and Shagbark Hickory. Vater's material has to meet very strict quality characteristics to be made into a Vater drumstick. They only uses dowels that have a moisture content specific to "striking" tools (10%-12%), so you get a drumstick with great feel and durability which results in Vater sticks feel slightly heaver in the hand but results in great feel around the kit.. The Sweetride is available in both Hickory and Sugar Maple.
