Product Description Meridian is a natural aragonite substrate with oolithic structure (spherical or ovoid shape) for all marine or reef aquariums. Meridian is the premium aragonite substrate for reef aquariums. Its grain size (fairly uniform from 0.25 to 0.5 mm) is ideal for reef inhabitants and its chemical composition will help stabilize calcium and alkalinity preventing major pH drops. Unlike competing "wet" products that are marketed under the pretext of being "alive," Meridian is sold dry; you only get the substrate and no water you don't need. These products are believed to contain live microscopic animals when they actually only contain bacteria of some kind. All available substrates contain and will allow the growth of bacteria, whether wet or dry. If you want to shorten the cycle time of a new system, it will be more appropriate to use a product designed for that particular purpose (such as Seachem stability).
