About this item
  • OTODUS OBLIQUUS is an extinct genus of mackerel shark. Otodus means ‘ear shaped tooth’ and is derived from the Greek words for ear & tooth. O. obliquus would have measured about 9 metres long. It lived from the Paleocene (66 million years ago) to the Miocene (5 million years ago). Otodus obliquus was a large sea predator eating marine mammals and large fish, it is also the ancestor to the most famous Otodus - O. Megalodon, the biggest predatory shark ever!
  • SQUALICORAX PRISTODONTUS - is a genus of extinct lamniform shark which lived during the Cretaceous period. Commonly called ‘crow shark’ ,Squalicorax pristodontus grew 3 - 4 metres long, and was the largest species of Squalicorax. They looked similar to modern gray reef sharks with a curved serrated edged crown. Squalicorax was a sea coastal predator with food sources included large ichthyodectids and mosasaurs! Their teeth have even been found embedded in Pteranodons!
  • SAND TIGER SHARK - CARCHARIAS CUSPIDATA an extinct genus of sand tiger sharks belonging to the family Odontaspididae. Carcharias Cuspidata grew to 3 metres long and weighed around 160kg. The shark's teeth are smooth, unserrated, long and tapered to sharp points. Carcharias Cuspidata lived from the Cretaceous period to the Quaternary period (from 99.7 to 0.012 Ma).
