The soft rubber is sandwiched between a protective fabric outer, also know as double-faced neoprene. This provides protection from scratches and scraps which may otherwise tear the rubber. On the bottom there is also an extra layer of protection and padding, with anti-abrasion panels to protect you and your wetsuit where you need it most.
