Product description
Discover OcCre's Santa Maria Boat Model Kit: an exciting opportunity to start an exceptional project. The Santa Maria ship is fundamental in the history of Christopher Columbus's voyages, being one of the three ships that made up his expedition: Pinta, La Niña and Santa María. Of the three, Saint Mary was the largest vessel and played a crucial role in the 1492 voyage that resulted in the discovery of the New World. In August of that year, Santa Maria sailed from Spain with Columbus on board, reaching America in October of the same year. The historical importance of St. Mary lies in its central role during this historic journey, which marked the beginning of the exploration and colonization of America and changed the course of world history. The legacy of Santa María, in addition to its journey, endures in its contribution to the geographical and cultural expansion of the colonial era. History of the Santa Maria Ship The Santa Maria Boat departed from the port of Palos de la Frontera in Spain on August 3, 1492, under the command of Columbus, thus marking the beginning of European exploration of the American continent. The Santa Maria was a nao, a type of boat robust and suitable for long sea voyages. During the voyage, Columbus and his crew faced numerous challenges, including storms and the uncertainty of navigating to unknown lands. Finally, on October 12, 1492, they sighted land, reaching an island in what we now know as the Bahamas. This event is considered one of the most significant moments in history, as it opened the door to the exploration and colonization of the New World. Unfortunately, Santa Maria failed to complete the journey back to Spain. On December 25, 1492, he ran aground on a sandbank off the coast of what is now Haiti. The crew used the ship's remains to build a fort called La Navidad, where some sailors remained while Columbus returned to Spain with news of the discovery. Despite its tragic end, the Holy Mary remains a symbol of the adventurous spirit and the era of exploration that characterized the Renaissance.
