From its original cell, the F-5E Tiger II was born in the early 1970s. Equipped with a pair of new J85-GE-21 engines able to guarantee a power and a thrust decidedly superior to the previous version, it was characterized by an elongated and enlarged fuselage. The improved flight performance achieved with the new aerodynamic lay-out, increased operating range and upgraded avionics have enabled the Tiger II to be successfully deployed by numerous air forces. The basic armament consists of two 20 mm guns, installed in the nose under the cabin, and the possibility of using various combinations of air-to-air missiles.
