The Hawker Hurricane was the most widespread fighter used by the British Royal Air Force at the beginning of World War II. The Hurricane was driven by an inline, liquid-cooled, 12-cylinder Rolls-Royce Merlin engine of over 1,000 HP that could bring it to a speed of more than 500 km/h. The 8 Browning 7.7mm machine guns with which it was equipped also guaranteed good firepower. Although it was slower and old-fashioned, by aerodynamic conception, than the famous Supermarine Spitfire "colleague" with whom he shared operational commitment during the Battle of England, it was still more robust, cheaper and easier to maintain and repair.
