Product description
The traditional history of the onion pattern dates back to ancient China, the country of origin of porcelain. In the Ming period (1368 - 1644), floral motifs in underglaze painting can be demonstrated on the finest white porcelain. The asymmetric arrangement of the different motifs that emanated from Japanese Kakimon painting in Arita can be rediscovered, for example, in the aster-bamboo bouquet of the onion pattern. European artists of the 18th century enthusiastically picked up these motifs in the sign of Chinese fashion at the time and created independent decors that have lost none of their fascination to this day. The famous onion pattern was created around the year 1739. This name was popularly created under the mistake of the true motifs in the onion pattern. In fact, there are no onions in this decor, but pomegranates, peaches, peonies and an aster-bamboo bouquet. The white shape of the Meissner porcelain factory C. Teichert, which dates back to a design from 1728, was taken over by Lorenz Hutschenreuther in 1926 and introduced to the market as Maria Theresa. Also from C. Teichert comes "Blue Onion Pattern" which has been manufactured by Hutschenreuther since 1930. Pure cobalt paint is still used today, and there is still a high proportion of handmade, i.e. painting on staffages, lid buttons, plate edges and cup borders. The fine design of the details is considered a distinctive feature of the "Hutschenreuther Blue Onion Pattern". The decor meets the requirements of a modern household and is of course dishwasher and microwave safe. This tradition has been continued to this day, the baroque "blue onion pattern" is still the most successful and extensive series of the Hutschenreuther brand, and always finds its lovers for many table experiences around the day.
