The papers from the ARCHES Aquarelle range are made in a round shape: a quality that is close to that of handmade paper. The slow rotation of the cylinder allows the fibers to be deposited regularly and spread out in all directions of the fabric. The fibers are evenly distributed, the paper is evenly unfolded when wet, offering greater control for the artist. Only manufacturing in a round shape allows to obtain papers with beards. This process makes it possible to produce papers of high grammage and with exceptional resistance to scratching and erasing. 100% cotton and with a wide range of grammages, ARCHES Aquarelle papers are available in 3 grains: • Fine grain: natural and harmonious, suitable for most techniques or subjects painted. Remains light and enhances pigment transparency. • SATIN GRIT: The paper has an additional finish, one step under the press to get a very smooth paper. Its grain is imperceptible and absorbs colors very quickly. It is adapted for detail work and fine brushstrokes. • Thick grain: the most relief. This texture allows to highlight the color and volumes. The choice of texture depends on the medium used by the artist. But in general, texture for the artist is a personal choice that is part of his creative process and artistic expression. ARCHES is the only paper mill in the world that performs gelatin in the dough of its watercolor paper. Gluing in the dough with natural gelatin preserves the state and transparency of the colors by preventing the pigments from transferring to the thickness of the paper. Allows for overlays of gouges and reinforces resistance to erasing and scratching, without breaking, or creating lint. It also allows you to remove pigments, working both wet and dry, and easily recover the whitening of the paper. ARCHES Aquarelle can absorb a lot of water, its deformation is limited. Although it is wet for a long time, the paper retains a sufficient amount of gelatin and does not become too absorbent.
