During headset assembly, the star nut is pressed into the top of the steerer tube. A top cap bolt then threads into it, allowing you to apply downward force to set the correct bearing preload before tightening the stem. Important: This product is not suitable for carbon fiber steerer tubes. Using a star nut on carbon can cause cracking or failure. Use a carbon-safe expander plug instead.
